P5(d)Role of Relevant Regulatory Bodies

Meaning&Purpose:
It is an independent organization, they have the responsibility to deal the complaints about the editorial content of newspapers and magazines and their websites. The government not only with responsibility for culture, but also has responsibility for the creative industries. They need to make some rules and ensure the rules are work. Then the industry or any activities need to follow the rules.


This is the list from BBFC(British Board of Film Classification). BBFC is the UK's regulator of film and video, they provide the rating such as 12, 12A to organize the age group. Different classifications have different rules. The income in this organization is from the fees it charges from its services, calculated by measuring the running time of films, DVDs/videos and other works submitted for classification.

12 and 12A are the classifications I found in BBFC, I think these two classifications are suitable for Bigbang's music videos.  People who aged 12 or over can watch their music videos. But the children that age under 12 has to watch the videos with their parents or any adult, otherwise, they can't watch the videos. I put their music videos in these two classifications because of they have some sexy things in the videos sometimes. For example, the ladies who are models in the music videos will wear sexy clothes to show their sexy bodies. And the character in the music videos always have some close actions to show the meanings of the lyrics or their relationship. The members in Bigbang are had good bodies, therefore, they will show their bodies in some cuts just a few seconds to attract audiences. But there are not any rude languages or drug in the music videos. Because of these following reasons, their music videos are not very suitable for too young people watch by themselves.


P5(c)Legal and ethical issues

Meaning&Purpose
One of the big issues in the media industry is copyright. Some people in entertainment circle copy other famous people works like music melody, lyrics, the ways to take music video and style. They want to use this way to improve their popularity in a short time. But this behavior has a very bad influence on the original author, this is illegal. The original authors have legal protection to protect their own works so that their original material can not be use in somebody else's name. However, copyright can only be applied to the application of the idea, not the idea itself. If somebody want to make a public performance, he must have a permission from the copyright owner of that song before you do so.

Performing right
PRS(Performing right society limited). The songwriters, composers and music publishers can get money from anyone who use their music for business benefit. They need to pay royalties to music creators around the world.

Bigbang copyright
The members in Bigbang are the copyright owner. They always write the song themselves for their every new album. But sometimes they still need some suggestions from professional producers in YG Entertainment. G-dragon is the leader in this group, he is widely known to be the main composer and producer of the group. His songs like "Haru Haru" is the most digitally downloaded song in Korean song history. In 2008, at age 20, G-Dragon was the youngest to be awarded The 10 Greatest Korean Composers. As of August 2015, the Korea Music Copyright Association has 165 songs listed under his name.

P5(b) Issues of Representations

Representations
Representation is the way the media RE-PRESENT individuals, groups, events and issues.

Stereotypes
Media institutions use stereotypes because the audience will instantly understand them. Think of stereotypes as a 'visual shortcut'. They are repeated so often that we assume they are normal or 'true'.


Yellow crown(Yellow pentagon) with "B" is known as the symbol of Bigbang. People are always think of Bigbang when they see this shape. This is a pentagon because of there are five members in this group and yellow is their colour, the big "B" is easy to make people know this is for Bigbang.


G-Dragon is the leader in this band. Therefore, GD is his abbreviation. This symbol is design by YG, it is made by two alphabet "G"and "D". Some people think the designer copy the idea of the symbol of peace, but the company clarify the facts at last. However, this is a very good advertisement for Bigbang, this is because peace symbol is well known and many people can relative to Bigbang when they see the peace symbol.

The Ouendan colour system
This is a traditional cultural of Korea. Every single group or artist have their own Ouendan colour or thing. The colour is one of the symbols of the group or artist. You can easy to see this cultural in their concerts. The fans will organise the activities like use different colour of hand light to make a word or picture. Different stars' concerts have different colour light. 




The picture above shows the different in different stars' concert. What I mention is the colour is the symbol of the star. For Bigbang, yellow is their Ouendan colour. As we know people always use yellow to be the natural light colour, like sunshine. Many people think light is hope and I think this is a reason why they choose yellow to be their colour. But some fans say Bigbang don't have Ouendan colour, their support thing is the hand light with crown shape and yellow light.

YG is a hip-hop entertainment and Bigbang is a hip-pop group. Their clothes style, music style and all things are around hip-hop at first. From time to time, they can change any styles they want now. Their songs are not only about hip-hop, but also R&B, Electronic and so on. Also, they change their clothes style sometimes.

P5(a)Product impact and effect on the audience

Meaning&Purpose:
Media effect theory is how media can affect society and how society affects the media. Some negative implications of this theory are when people do "copycat murders". An audience the tends to see the audience as passive and sees how exposure to particular aspects of media content can influence the behaviour of the reader or viewer.

The theory helps explain Moral panic in relation to representations of; sex violence and deviant behaviour and it's supposed effects on youth.
Moral panic (The feeling that the situation is out of control in some way, and therefore represents a threat to the moral order).

Hypodermic Model - refers to the idea that the media is like a drug that is addicted to.

Reception theory 
Reception Theories is when producers or directors constructs a text encoded with hidden message or meaning that the producers or directors want to convey across to the audience. If done correctly, the audience will be able to pick up the meaning or message straight away, but the audience will need to be reminded of the message throughout the film this could be done through character dialogue or actions within the film.

Bigbang & 2ne1 impact and effect on the audiences
Bigbang and 2ne1 are very popular male/female group over the world. They are known as famous Korean groups with special style and strong makeup. Lots of audiences try to copy their style in their daily life, whether clothes style or makeup.

We can find various of this kind of makeup videos online. Some audiences will try to find out the makeup skills when after they watch the music videos or some photos. Then they change their hair colour, use the contact lens to change the eyes colour and buy some similar clothes  to make them look like the stars. But the problem is the stars always have very exaggerated style to attract people, to make the audience remember. If the audiences have these strong styles in daily life, other people may think they are very strange.

We can find many similar clothes on shopping websites. Every time they have concerts or some activities, the clothes they wear or the things they use will become popular. Therefore, the fans will find out the brand and the way to buy the products. Sometimes, the products are too expensive for some consumers and because of that many clothes factories produce lots of similar or same products with no brand name and use cheaper material then sell them. 


This is an App call V app. Fans can follow their favorite channels and watch some live programs in this app. The stars will come to their channel in an uncertain time. If  you are lucky you can chat with the stars. The stars in Korea always post some videos on this app and they can see the comment below the video. Sometimes, they will reply their fans. If they are doing the live video, their fans will ask they to do some actions or say something immediately. At that time, the stars will focus on the comment and do what their fans want on time. This kind of app can improve the relationship between stars and fans.


This is an example of the star reply his fans in Instagram. He is asking his fans to give the icon picture to him. Then he uses this picture to be his icon. The fan feels very surprised and excited. This kind of behaviours can improve the stars image.

P4(b) Advertising

Meaning&Purpose
Advertising is a kind of promotion. It is a marketing communication. Communication techniques aimed at informing, influencing and persuading customers to buy or use a particular. It involves communication about the product or service. The main aim of a promotion is to ensure that consumers are aware of the existence and positioning of products. To persuade customers that the product is better competing products and to remind customers of why they may want to buy.

A good promotion can help the product increase sales, encourage customer loyalty, create an image and attract new customers. Bigbang as artists, they don't have advertisements for themselves but have many advertisings for their products and always been invited to go and do product endorsements.









The image on the top left is the poster for Bigbang's concert. They always have posters for promotion before any activities. The background of the poster can show the theme of the concert. For example, the background in this poster is their photo. This photo is from their new album and the album name is "MADE" The red topic is very obvious in the black&whtie background. This poster will be paste in any shop, bus and station. The electric one may show in any big screen on the street and shopping mall. 
The image on the top right shows lots of trailers for Bigbang's music video. YG Entertainment always releases trailers before Bigbang comeback. The trailer will show apart of the music video or have some interview to the members. This can be a reminder to remind fans and audience that Bigbang will come back soon and ask them to pay attention. The trailer should have some special things to attract people. 


This is the official website of YG Entertainment. You can see there is a click called NOTICE, the fans can check every new information for the stars as soon as possible in here. For example, this image is about BIGBANG'S WELCOMING COLLECTION DVD 2015, the release date, the way to buy and the things inside are shown in the notice.


This is another poster for Bigbang concert but this concert is related to SAMSUNG. SAMSUNG ask Bigbang to do some promotion for their new product, therefore, the concert name is GALAXY Tour. It is a kind of advertisement for SAMSUNG and themselves.

P4(a) Distribution channels

Meaning&Purpose:
The distribution channel is the link between all retailers when a good or service passing from producers to consumers, which is split into two parts, direct and indirect. Consumers purchasing goods and services from the producers without intermediates is called direct Direct channel, whereas indirect DC is consumers buying products from retailer or wholesalers.


YG Entertainment has many distribution channels, these companies have the partnership with YG. KTM is a player can provide fair digital music distribution, music service, and television program productions. When the artists release new songs, the consumers can use this player to watch and listen to the music video/music.

YG as an entertainment, it needs a company to manage concert for the artists. Live Nation is the largest live entertainment company, operate concert promotion, ticket solution and so on. 


This is the official website for Live Nation. You can check the concert arrangement, ticket and some big events on the website. And the company has many websites for different countries because of it is an international company.


Music Download


You can search lots of songs from iTunes and give money to download the songs. Then people may think less people want to pay for the songs, the popularity may very low. However, the new consumers in iTunes have 3 months to enjoy the app for free. After 3 months, you can choose two different sets with different prices, one is for individual and another one is for family. Many people willing to pay for the songs because of the app has high quality music and lots of resources. 
QQ Music is an app from China, YG Entertainment decide to give the copyright of the songs to this app from 2014. QQ Music is the only one company in China has this right. As same as iTunes music, we still need to pay for the songs in this app. 

  










P3(a-d) Demographics of the target audience



Meaning&Purpose:
A target audience is a particular group of consumers within the pre-determined market. The company need to organize the target audience then foucs on this specific consumers to make something that they will accept and spend money on the products. 

Audience gender and age:
The main audiences for Bigbang and YG Entertainment are male and female from age 12 to 35. They would like to buy both physical albums and digital albums. The main consumers are between 20 to 30 years old, they already have service ability and economic condition. The audiences below 20 years are students, they don't money to buy a physical album and go to concerts because of the price is too high for them. The students may ask their parents to pay, but some parents do not allow their children spend too much time on stars. The audiences above 30 years old with mature economic conditions but they are no longer have the enthusiasm to buy albums or go to concerts. These two type of audiences may just download the music online and watch some videos. 


Audience lifestyle:
Most of their audiences are young people. Lots of students save money to buy their product to support them. They will learn their songs even if the different language. Some people with dance ability will learn their dance and may have performance in school or some competitions. Even a small number of their fans want to be the same person like Bigbang. This type of fans will go to join some singing&dancing competitions. However, still have lots of people just want to listen their music. They are not very interesting in the person, not very know about the band. This kind of audience will not spend money on the album, concert or anything else. They are very calm compare to the fans.


Audience spending power:
I mention that the main age group 12 to 35. Most of them have the economic condition, they have money to buy the albums and go to the concert. Even help them to do some charity works. However, the young students might not have enough daily money, then they will save money to buy any products to support the stars. Like t-shirts, album, cup, sticker and so on.

The audience will be most willing to keep buying the product if the quality is very good. Good packaging can attract the audience, some companies will put some gifts into the album box, to give a surprise to the consumers. The audience want to buy the products because of they love the stars, they want to through this way to support them, the reason is not because of they love the products sometimes. Therefore, some companies will make some products with very cheap material and low quality but sell them in a high price. This is because they believe there are some consumers don't care about the price, still many people want to buy it. Obviously, this is a very irresponsible behaviour. 


Audience was influenced by Bigbang:
The stars always support by their fans. Their fans will treat them as role models, to copy their actions, ideas and styles.  Some of them will try the things the stars interested in. Therefore, we always ask for the public figures have good self-management. They must build a good image if they want the audiences to support them. If the stars lose the audiences and consumers, their popularity will decrease. They will lose their reputation, income from time to time. If they can't find some ways to solve this problem, they may can't survive in this entertainment circle.



Not only music can attract fans, but also drama is a very good way to increase the popularity. The member in Bigbang called T.O.P is the first member who join in drama programme in this band so that he has a group of fans that only interesting in his movie/drama. This kind of fans are not care about his music, they just watch movie. Therefore, the stars can attract different groups of fans if they have different abilities to do different works.

As we know the leader GD in this band always go to some fashion shows. There is a group of fans are focus on his clothes styles and hair styles, they will buy some same products to copy the styles or go to change the hair colour. Just make themselves looks like GD. However, there are some fans know what they need, they just have the similar styles but not the same.

The youngest member in Bigbang open a music school in Korea. Many teenagers study in this school to aspect professional training, they hope they can become famous stars like him. I think this is a kind of supporters too. The teenagers who want to join in the entertainment circle will think Bigbang is the goal of them, then go to the school.


P2(a-g) Analysis of a Media Product

Introduction & Purpose: 
Bigbang is a male group from South Korea. There are five members in this male group. Two of them received training in YG Entertainment at the age of eleven and they were trained for six years. The remaining three members, one of them was an underground rapper and the last two members were found from competition. All of them have had 3 to 6 years training. Bigbang held their official debut on August 19, 2006. Bigbang means the big bang in space. Therefore, we can see their purpose from the group name which is they hope they can have a big influence on the Asian music scene even the world music scene.



























Members introduction:
As you can see the image above is a poster for Bigbang. From left to right, the first member called T.O.P(Choi Seung Hyun)is a main bass rapper in the group and he is an actor too. The second one called G-Dragon(Kwon Ji Yong) is the leader in this group and also is a treble rapper, producer and musician. The middle one called Tae Yang(Dong Young bae) and the last one called Dae Sung(Kang Dae Sung). They are both the main vocal in this group and Tae Yang is the main dancer too. The fourth one called Victory(Lee Seung Hyun) is the youngest member and he is a dancer, singer and compere. They are all debut in Korea and Japan. And some of them, especially GD and Taeyang have high popularity in the USA.

I choose one of their music videos to discuss its camera angle, editing, effect and so on. The name of the video is 'Fantastic baby'. This is one of the most famous songs in the world. The style of this song is electro. And the music video is very novelty, their clothes styles and hair styles are very special.

The genre of this song is electropop(electronic & pop) and hip pop. The melody is very easy to remember. Especially the climax part, "Wow Fantastic baby" is a memory point. Make people continue to think of this melody. The beginning of the song makes people like to have an electric shock.

Narrative & Style

The storyline is very clear in this music video.



They have different hair styles and clothes styles in different environments. The director uses props and some effect to make the music video more attractive. The props like ice, frame, handcuffs can tell the audiences they are not free. And the actors' expression can show they are painful and unhappy. At the end of the video, they already regain freedom. Therefore, their clothes are gorgeous and the environment looks like after the fight. They wear crowns in the last image, this mean they are kings, don't need to listen to someone anymore. They are just themselves.

These music videos show you the different music type they have. And we can analyze their videos, describe how they show the meaning. They use lots of angles and special effects in the videos. The most important thing is they always have special hair style or clothes and so on to attract people. Invite some models or stars from another country to join in their music video is a good way to make the video international.

The fan's name is V.I.P(Very Important People). Bigbang have their own support colour(yellow) and support things(Crown Light). Fans will bring the Crown light to every concert.




Production process


This is the company building. The studio is specifically designed to provide the best possible work environment to all of its artists. Everything from the studio, recording devices, food and drinks, tech gadgets are very nice. All the facilities, machines, and items are super high-tech, top-notch products.


This is the studio for them. They spend lots of time in here and just practice again and again. Bigbang always write the songs themselves. Therefore, they need to use these facilities during the creation. As you can see, the studio is very professional. They have professional producers to help them create a new album.

I have to remind that they have had 3-6 year training before debut. The company needs to make sure the trainee have enough ability to be artists. They need to improve their comprehensive ability,  especially singing skills and dancing skills during the years. Lots of people give up because of the uncertain future and it is too difficult to insist. 

Before they release a new album, the company need to have a very specific plan. For example, they need to design the package of the album, they need to decide the topic of the album and have promotion plans. The artists always need to stay up late to make more songs, to practice their dance and so on. 



This is their own dance practice room. They can design their stage performance here. The room is enough big to dance with at least 10 dancers. Before the concert, live, mv filming, they need to stay here to practice again and again. Of course, this is not the only one practice room for them, they also have song practice room, drama practice room and so on.




These two images show the shooting scene about the music video. The entertainment production department in the company will choose some places to take the music video. The director team need to discuss the light setting use in the music video. Some backgrounds are in outside and some background is in studio with green curtain. There are many equipment to help the director finish the shooting, to achieve differnt angels and different shooting ways. If the shooting palce is in the downtown area, they may cause onlookers. Lots of fans will stand beside the place and the shooting process may difficult to carry on. Some companies will choose to take the whole music video in studio and use technology to add effect or change background. This way can save money and time, but their fans may not accept this kind of music videos because of no story and no effort.


Makeup is very important in music video. The style team need to discuss what hair style, clothes style, makeup style and so on use in the music video. These style should be accord with the music style. The memebers in a band always have different roles, therefore the they will have different styles in the music video. A good makeup and hair style can make the music video more attractive.
