Ownership is the act, state or right of processing something. There are many different types of ownership for business. The most common ownership in the UK is under private ownership, this is somethings that relate to businesses own by individuals who aim to make a profit.
YG Entertainment belongs to public ownership because of the company shares are traded freely on a stock exchange. Public companies have more advantages than private companies, for example it has better ability to sell future equity stakes and this make the company access to the debt markets easier than other companies. With these advantages, however, comes increased regulatory scrutiny and less control for majority owners and company founders.
However, public company has more competitors, therefore, greater competition. The company has greater probability of bankruptcy. Public Limited companies are huge in size and may face management problems such as slow decision making and industrial relations problems.
The concentration of media ownership (also known as media consolidation or media convergence) is a process whereby progressively fewer individuals or organization control increasing shares of the mass media.
Media ownership is very important for a company. The biggest media owner in the company may have a large influence on the company's project, target and its supporters(viewer). In YG Entertainment, Yang Hyun Suk is the founder and the biggest shareholder. He was a member of an hip-hop music group before, therefore, the main style in his company is hip-hop. whether clothes style, music style or makeup style are around hip-hop. And his brother Yang Min Suk is the CEO. Some artists in YG Entertainment had become shareholders of YG's stocks. YG hopes this decision can help the company make more profit and motivate their artists.
Private ownership:
The company is run by itself, not by members of the public or other companies one example of private ownership is the technology company Apple.
An advantage of private ownership is that the individual or group can decide how to run the business and that the company can keep all the profits itself.
A disadvantage of private ownership is that if business falls the company can't rely on other businesses to help out this means that if the company takes the loss it will be harder for the company to make the money back meaning they are more likely to go bust.
Multinational ownership:
The company has either investments or operations in two or more countries.
An advantage is that the cost of production throughout the world will cost a lot less.
A disadvantage is that it could create a monopoly effect meaning that the public could turn on the company.
Independent ownership:
A company is owned by a small organization and is usually owned by one individual.
An advantage is the owner of the company is in charge of how the businesses run without having restrictions from other companies that have invested.
A disadvantage is the company will usually remain small as the company won't have enough money to advertise as far as other types of ownerships could.
Public Service ownership:
Public service ownership means that some percentage of the company is owned by the public.
An advantage of this is that the government provides services that would usually come out of businesses money.
A disadvantage of this is that you are likely to have to pay a lot of come of the companies profits in tax.
YG Entertainment is run by itself, it has many shareholders to hold different percentage of share. And YG has many subsidiary corporations, like YGEX, YG Underground, YG K-PLUS, YG USA, YG ASIA, YG BEIJING, NEXT INTERACTIVE K, YG NEXT. These companies are in different domains, like models, drama.
YG Entertainment is a listed company. This means the company is recognized as a public-owned company. Being listed means that people can trade (buy and/or sell) on the shares of the company. In 2012, YG Entertainment's share prices saw a year-over-year increase of more than 60 percent due to the increase in publicity following the achievements of multiple artists on the label, most notably Psy's hit Gangnam Style.
